Crystal Palace vs Chelsea - Eagles to Run Out of Luck

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea - Eagles to Run Out of Luck

Published by Christoffer Segerhjelm, 22 March 2021

This is an early outlook on the Premier League game between Crystal Palace and Chelsea, scheduled to take place on Saturday 10 April at Selhurst Park.
The hosts have only scored four goals in the five most recent games and the visitors have only conceded once in the five most recent games.
I do believe that the odds market to some extent overestimate the prospect of the home team scoring goals.

Crystal Palace

The Eagles have been quite lucky picking up 8 points and scoring 4 goals in the five most recent games. In fact, Roy Hodgson's team have produced very little going forward and I believe reality will be catching up with them soon.

Only West Bromwich Albion and Sheffield United have created fewer shots and shots on target than Crystal Palace so far this season, Crystal Palace creating on average 8.62 shots and 3.03 shots on target per game.

Looking at home games specifically, the numbers look even more dreadful:
No other team have created fewer shots or shots on target at home than Crystal Palace so far this season, Crystal Palace creating on average 7.80 shots and 2.73 shots on target per game at Selhurst Park.

Looking at the four most recent games, Crystal Palace have created on average 1.25 shots on target per game which is worse attacking numbers than Crystal Palace's numbers for the season so far and also the worst attacking numbers in the Premier League in recent weeks.

Chelsea

The Blues have been looking solid enough since Frank Lampard was dismissed on 25 January, conceding a stunning 0.20 goals per game in the Premier League under Thomas Tuchel.

Only Manchester City, Liverpool and Brighton & Hove Albion have conceded fewer shots than Chelsea so far this season, Chelsea conceding on average 8.86 shots per game.
Only Manchester City have conceded fewer shots on target than Chelsea so far this season, Chelsea conceding on average 2.83 shots on target per game.

Looking at the four most recent games specifically, Chelsea have looked particularly solid, conceded on average 1.75 shots on target per game which is better defensive numbers than Chelsea's numbers for the season so far and also the best defensive numbers in the Premier League in recent weeks.
