Lille vs. Monaco - Heavyweight Clash in Ligue 1
Two of the most exciting teams in Ligue 1 will meet for an eagerly anticipated clash at Stade Pierre Mauroy on Sunday afternoon.
Lille have scored in all 12 of their Ligue 1 games so far this season. They have also kept things pretty tight at the back, and they are just two points behind league leaders PSG.
Monaco are level on points with Lille after winning their last four matches. They have found the back of the net in 11 of their 12 games. The only blip was a surprise 1-0 defeat to Brest a couple of months ago.
We should therefore be in for an open and entertaining game when these talented teams lock horns in Lille at the weekend.
A Wealth of Attacking Talent
Lille manager Claude Puel has a lot of attacking options at his disposal.
Top scorer Burak Yilmaz and the talented Jonathan Ikoné often start up front, but Puel can also call upon €30 million summer arrival Jonathan Davidand Turkish forward Yusuf Yazici and dynamic youngster Timothy Wear.
Monaco have also invested heavily in attack talent over the past couple of years.
The prolific Wissam ben Yedder joined from Sevilla in the summer of 2019, and then they bought Kevin Volland from Bayer Leverkusen this year.
They have fired in 11 goals between them so far this season. Monaco also have playmaker Cesc Fabregas in their ranks, and Stevan Jovetic provides another option in attack.
Fatigue Concerns for Lille
Lille have only conceded two goals in six home games so far this season, while Monaco have managed just a goal per game on the road.
However, Lille have a Thursday night Europa League clash to contend with, so Monaco should be fresher for this game.
That could help them exploit any weariness in the Lille defence, and they will be surging with confidence after rattling off four straight wins.
Monaco have kept just three clean sheets this season, so they are unlikely to keep Lille at bay for 90 minutes. It would make sense for them to take the game to their opponents, so we should see both teams getting on the score sheet.
Tip: Both teams to score
Stake: One unit
