Hull City vs Burton Albion - The Prospect of Away Goals Overprized

Published by Christoffer Segerhjelm, 10 November 2020

With another international break encompassing the weekend, let's take a trip to the East Riding of Yorkshire and one of the fixtures in League One. On Saturday Hull City host Burton Albion at the KCOM Stadium and I believe the odds market overestimate the prospect of away goals.

I will also be posting some early outlooks on the upcoming Premier League fixtures - you'll find all betting tips in my spreadsheet English Football as per usual.

Hull City

The Tigers are aiming for a swift return to the Championship after finishing rock bottom last season. Grant McCann put together a large squad in the summer and his team have enjoyed a solid start to the new season, currently residing in 5th place with 21 points from 10 games.

Statistics

Only Milton Keynes Dons and Sunderland have conceded fewer shots than Hull so far this season, Hull conceding on average 8.20 shots per game.
Only Sunderland have conceded fewer shots on target than Hull so far this season, Hull conceding on average 2.70 shots on target per game.
When at home, the numbers look even better: only Milton Keynes Dons have conceded slightly fewer shots on target at home than Hull so far this season, Hull conceding on average 2.25 shots on target per game.
This resolute defensive performance is allowing only 0.50 goals per game at KCOM Stadium so far this season.

Burton Albion

The Brewers have seen quite an overhaul since finishing mid-table last season. But shuffling the cards and appointing Jake Buxton as player-manager didn't do the trick; Burton now find themselves in 23rd place with 7 points from 11 games.

Statistics

Only 5 teams have created fewer shots than Burton so far this season, Burton creating on average 10.09 shote per game.
Only Wigan Athletic, Charlton Athletic and Bristol Rovers have created fewer shots on target than Burton so far this season, the Staffordshire side creating on average 2.91 shote per game.
