AFC East finally open?

Pats fans are starting to panic a little but. It's a scene we were not used to seeing in previous years. They had slower starts before, but there was an optimism that Belichick and Brady will get everything in order before entering the second half of the season and for the most part, they did just that. But now when Brady is gone, and the offense is struggling, they are worried. Losing to Denver Broncos last week put them in 3rd place in the AFC East. With 2-3 record, they are even behind Miami Dolphins, but with only 1.5 win behind the leader Buffalo, they are not completely out of the race just yet.

But they need to step up their game and they need to do it fast. Especially on offense. Cam Newton had some bright moments in Pats jersey, but his play was inconsistent, especially when we talk about the throwing aspect of his game. Not having much talent to work with at the WR position is a part of the problem for sure. Injuries on the OL are not making things easier either. But they still need to do more if they want to get in the playoffs.

Back in action

San Francisco was in a very difficult position before the previous game. They were sitting at 2-3, in a very competitive division where another loss would maybe even knock them out of the playoff race. But, they played a great game and defeated their divisional rivals - LA Rams. They went back to their bread and butter. Rushing offense. As usual, they had a lot of success with it, which allowed them to control the clock, keep Goff & co. on the sidelines and have their defense fresh when they get on the field. It resulted in an easy victory.

But they seem to struggle to shake off the injury bug this year. Part of their problem in September were injuries. They finally started to get healthier the previous week, but once again, they lost a couple of important players. Mostert is out for the game, as is Tevin Coleman who is still on IR. It means Jerrick McKinnon and JaMycal Hasty will share the duties in the backfield. On the other side of the ball, Jacquiski Tartt and Jimmie Ward are out.

Patriots vs 49ers betting tips

Those two guys are extremely important in the back end of that pass defense. Tartt is a versatile defensive back that can come down and defend the run, or play as a centre fielder. Jimmie Ward will match-up with receivers lining up in the slot. That being said, it's not a perfect timing to lose him, considering the Patriots' most dangerou receivers (Edelmen) mostly plays out of slot.

Looking at the main markets, I think San Francisco is still slightly undervalued. I've been backing them quite a lot and I think this is another spot where I need to do it. I simply have to take them as 3 point dogs vs very Patriots that have not been playing very good football. Niners have the strength to play around Patriots defensive strengths (secondary). They have very fast linebackers that can contain Cam Newton and force him to play inside the pocket, something that he's been struggling with.
