New York Jets vs Denver Broncos: Dumpster fire

New York Jets vs Denver Broncos: Dumpster fire

Imploding

Jets are hosting an opponent that is forced to start their 3rd string QB, and they were still opened as underdogs by the oddsmakers. Obviously, they are completely disrespected by the betting markets at the moment and probably deservedly so. They started the season 0-3 and that is the result of many bad decisions that they've made as an organisation throughout the last couple of seasons. From ownership, through front office and coaching, right down to the field. We didn't have a chance to see much good from anybody in this Jets franchise lately.

Needless to say, Adam Gase is on the hot seat. Again, deservedly so. Known as the "quarterback whisperer", he managed to ruin two young signal-callers in the last two of his head coaching jobs. He managed to run talent out of town and has no results to justify his bizzare decisions. Under his tutelage, Sam Darnold has thrown for less than 200 yards per game this season, 3 touchdowns and 4 interceptions.

On the other side, Denver Broncos looked much better so far, but were extremely unlucky. They lost two close games against the Titans and Steelers and on top of that, they lost a bunch of important players to injuries. Cortland Sutton, Von Miller, AJ Bouye, Jurrell Casey... Just to name the few. Oh, Drew Lock also injured his shoulder in that Week 2 loss to the Steelers. After that, the Broncos were forced to throw Jeff Driskell into the fire, but he wasn't able to do much to help them win football games.

That is why he was benched on sunday vs Tampa Bay, while another young QB got his opportunity and will start on thursday night as well. I'm talking about Brett Rypien, an UDFA from last year. He was 8/9 for 53 yards and an interception vs Buccaneers. It is always exciting to see a young quarterback getting a chance in the NFL, but we rarely saw Cinderella stories in situations like this. He is thrown into a poor situation with a mediocre (at best) OL play and a couple of important skill players injured (Sutton, Lindsay). Even against horrid Jets defense, I doubt he'll have a lot of success.

Jets vs Broncos betting tips

Once again, I already pointed towards the side I'm leaning to. Although I hate my guts because of it, I think Jets are the right side here. Even money, at home vs 0-3 that is starting their 3rd string QB. It is always dangerous to go with the team that is clearly imploding, but Broncos are in a very tough situation at the moment and traveling across the country on a short week is not going to help their cause.

Usually, run defense is the first to let down when it comes to these quick turnarounds on the road. Also, the Broncos just lost Jurrell Casey last week, who tore his biceps. He was one of the key pieces against the run in the middle of that defense. They signed Timmy Jerningan to replace him, but there is not enough time for him to learn anything about this defense and get ready for this game. Considering Jets were pretty committed to their running game even in negative game scripts, I believe Frank Gore could have a good game in this one. Another player prop that I like here is Chris Herndon IV under 3.5 receptions. That's about his average for the season, but he'll have a tough night in the office against Kareem Jackson and Justin Simmons who are probably one of the better cover safeties in the entire league.
