Washington Redskins vs Chicago Bears: Red flag in Windy city

No.2 overall

Red alert in Chicago has nothing to do with the weather or some other natural disasters. Bears started the season with 1-1, but what is much more concerning then the record is how bad their young QB looked. The offense led by Trubisky hasn't produced much in the previous two games. They got bailed out by their defense, which is allowing only 12 points per game. They need a positive performance from the 3rd year signal-caller on MNF to calm down the panicking fans.

But I don't think that all the blame should be on Trubisky. Head coach Matt Nagy should be responsible for the confusion on the offensive side of the ball. Players don't really know what their roles are. There are too many rotations, shuffling and changes of position. For example, the backfield is a mess. Week 1, Mike Davis surprisingly played more than David Montgomery, who received a lot of praise in the preseason. Tarik Cohen went from being passing down back to a slot receiver and then back again. Trey Burton, Anthony Miller, and Taylor Gabriel are not used properly and are underperforming because of it.

Defensively, they continued where they left off last year. Vic Fangio leaving and Adrian Amos signing with Packers didn't slow them down one bit. This unit simply has too much talent on all the levels and is probably the best defense in the league right now. There will be a couple of interesting matchups out there, such as then one on the edge, where Khalil Mack will go against Donald Penn, his longtime teammate from the Oakland Raiders.

Running out of gas

Speaking of Redskins, they are 0-2 but they really played way better then most have expected. Week 1, the win slipped out of their hands in the second half, after dominating the Eagles in Philadelphia early on. Last week vs Dallas, they also managed a solid half of football, but once again failed to repeat it in the second half. That simply isn't enough in the NFL, but there were some positives on which Washington can build going forward.

In my opinion, this roster was among those with the least talent in the league. When it was obvious that Trent Williams's holdout will not end when the regular season starts, it was difficult to be optimistic about their offense. Rookie (Dwayne Haskins) and a journeyman (Case Keenum) battling for a starting job at QB, behind a suspect OL and not a lot of talent at the receiver position. But, Donald Penn was a great pickup that helped them solidify the blind side of Case Keenum. While their 3rd round rookie "Scary" Terry McLaurin is surprisingly one of the most exciting wide receivers in the league at the moment.

Redskins vs Bears best bet

As I mentioned above, there is a lot of uncertainty in the Bears offense. Usually, I love such situations because it causes player props lines to be inaccurate. But I must admit that I'm slightly confused about it as well. 60 yards for Montgomery might be a tad high. He is a big back with some good vision, but not somebody that will have a lot of explosive plays. He needs volume to be productive and so far he didn't really get that.

Allen Robinson at 63 looks tempting. I don't hold those measly 41 yards from last week against him. Working against the combination of Chris Harris Jr and Kareem Jackson is not easy at all. He has a much easier matchup this time around, especially when lined up in the slot (rookie Jimmy Moreland) and with his usual targets, he should be able to cover this line.

Adrian Peterson might seem a bit low at 45. But I want no part of that over. Bears run defense is very stingy, allowing only 3 yards per carry. There is also a possibility of them falling behind and then needing a better pass-catcher out of the backfield. 12 carries for 35 yards is a stat line that would not surprise me at all.

Speaking of pass-catching running backs, Redskins happen to have one of those. And a pretty good one. Chris Thompson is their back on passing downs. He had 8 targets in each of the last two games. As I said, there is a possibility of them playing from behind and using him a lot. Keenum will have to get the ball out of his hand quickly vs a Bears D, featuring Khalil Mack, Akiem Hicks, Leonard Floyd, Roy Robertson-Harris... Thompson is a reliable check-down option.
