Coventry - Blackpool, Red-hot attack likely to cool down against solid defense?
I wrote a similar post last week. That tip lost by the finest of margins. I still believe there’s an anomaly to Blackpool’s goal scoring this season, likely to catch up with them soon. Why not on Saturday when they meet one of the most solid teams in League One?
Coventry
Coventry has gathered 12 points from 6 games conceding a total of 6 goals. All of the 6 goals being conceded on the road to Portsmouth and Oxford.
Last season, Coventry conceded approximately the league average of shots and shots on target.
During the summer Coventry has seen quite an overhaul of squad players; only Bolton having a higher turn-over of players in League One, manager Mark Robins focusing on strengthening the defensive lines. And it looks like it’s paying off: only 2 team conceded fewer shots than Coventry so far this season (Coventry conceded 9.17 shots per game) and only 2 team conceded fewer shots on target than Coventry so far this season (Coventry conceded 2.67 shots on target per game). At their temporary home ground St Andrew's Coventry conceded 1.33 shots on target so far this season, the lowest account in League One.
Blackpool
Blackpool couldn’t possibly dreamt of a better start to the season, collecting 12 points from 6 games and scoring 10 goals in the process. However, 9 of the 10 goals have been scored against Bristol Rovers, Southend, Oxford and Gillingham - all of which had problems and/or defensive issues last season.
Also, Blackpools efficiency in front of goal has been a bit crazy so far this season. No less than 50% of the shots on target have scored. As comparison: last season in League One, the average shots on target efficiency was 30.13% and the most efficient team scored 38.65% of the shots on target. So Blackpool is really off the charts this time around.
Looking at last season, only 4 teams created fewer shots than Blackpool in League One (Blackpool created 9.98 shots per game). Only 1 teams created fewer shots on target than Blackpool last season in League One (Blackpool created 3.54 shots on target per game).
This season has started in the very same manner: Only 4 teams created fewer shots than Blackpool so far this season (Blackpool created 10.33 shots per game) and only 6 teams created fewer shots on target than Blackpool so far this season (Blackpool created 3.33 shots on target per game).
I would like to argue that the most likely scenario is Blackpool to continue being a low threat in front of goal also this season. Not much have changed at the club since last season, Blackpool being one of the four clubs in League One with the lowest turn-over in squad players during the summer.

Conclusion & Betting Tips
Coventry is looking really solid this season, especially at ’home’.
Blackpool has been way too efficient in front of goal so far this season. The shots and shots on target stats indicate that Blackpool in fact are more likely to continue the rather bleak attacking output from last season.
My Betting Tip is Total Blackpool Goals: Under 0.5.
Stake at 5/10 units.
