Straight bet odds

The most common, simple and most known odds is the "straight bet market", which basically means you either chose one team to win, the other team to win or the match to end in a draw. If you play Detroit Red Wings to win at 2.25, with a 2 euro bet, you get 2,25 euro in profit back if the bet wins plus your initial stake. If it loses, you lose it all. At some particular cases you might receive your stake back on a draw result, but this most often occurs on different American types of sports, such as the NHL on certain bookies, for example bet365.

The most common thing is to count with is units, if you share bets and tips. You can read about this in the section "what is a unit?".

Handicap bets

European Handicap: If two teams of highly different quality faces each other, tipsters often play the handicap markets. A handicap market means that the worse team of the two is given an "imaginary goal or more," already before the match starts. Let´s say Barcelona plays Alaves in La Liga and the bookies award Alaves +2.5 goals already before the games starts. If you then chose to bet on Barcelona -2.5, it means that Barcelona has to win with at least a 3 goals margin for your bet to land. For example 3-0, 4-1, 4-0 etc. On the other hand if you bet on Alaves, any result apart from a loss with 3 or more goals gives you the win!

Asian handicap bets: Asian handicap bets is very similar to the European ones. The main difference is that there is far more different selections, and your bets can end in "push" (stake back but no win) as well has half-wins and half-losses.

Pushes: If you bet on Chelsea asian handicap -1.0 it means that they have to win by at least 2 goals in order for the bet to pay out. If they win with exactly 1 goal, your stake will be paid back without any profit. If Chelsea draws or loses the match, your stake is lost.

Half-loss: If you bet on Chelsea asian handicap -1.25 it means that Chelsea has to win by 2 goals for your bet to pay out. If Chelsea wins with the exact margin of 1 goal, you will get half of your initial stake back, in other words half a loss.

Half-win: If you bet on Chelsea asian handicap -1.75 it means that Chelsea has to win by at least 3 goals in order for you the get fully paid. If Chelsea wins by 2 goals exactly, you get your stake back + half of the possible winning amount. In other words, half a win.
